Looks like I have been “journaling” without even realising it. I’m a constant note writer, write travel journals, and when younger, the things our grandchildren said that made us laugh, ideas, plans, tales of annoying things, my life story, my love of music etc. etc….
I've been journaling since I was fifteen, so I was a self-indulgent moody teen when I started. I've still got all my journals and diaries so who knows, one day I'll write a memoir. I find journaling a good practice to clear my mind and sort out what I'm thinking about a problem and what I'm going to do about it.
It's great because you can get all the angst out of your system without needing a friend or family member on hand.
Been writing journals for half a century! They're all upstairs in rows in a shelf and make rich pickings for detail to bring to longer form writing.

Love writing a travel journal when I'm on the road too. 🚐

Those grandchildren will thankk you one day Sally. I wish my grandparents had done the same. Would have been fascinating to read now.
So well put, Jeanette, and a wonderful reminder of all the benefits of journaling!
I needed this today Jeanette. THANK YOU.
I was gifted a journal two months back and i have yet to start journaling
Every time i want to start there are so many thoughts that come to my mind that i reach the land of “don’t know where to start” and then i put it back
I am sure what j just read is going to be helpful

I’ve always journaled and found it so beneficial. This is a wonderful article, Jeanette!
Great!
What do you find most useful about it, Kim?
It’s helpful to sort my more truthful and important thoughts from the daily mental clutter. And it’s relaxing to me as well.
Yes I find it worthwhile to sift stuff and find the deeper patterns.
So happy to hear that Tariq. Journaling can be a game-changer. Love to hear how you find it.
I agree Wendy, we can spare our friends but also be more open because noone else is listening.
Fabulous resource you've created, Sue!
